WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Justice Department has charged former FBI employees Bradley Benavides and Nikki Floris with making false statements to Congress in connection with the bureau’s investigations of Hunter Biden.
Benavides, 56, and Floris, 46, each face one criminal count tied to testimony they gave lawmakers in 2023. Prosecutors filed the allegations through criminal complaints and have not obtained grand-jury indictments.
The two defendants appeared in federal court in Washington on Friday morning before Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui. They are scheduled to return Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Jeanine Pirro said the defendants “allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI’s Hunter Biden investigations.” Faruqui referred to their “sparkling backgrounds” during the court proceeding.
Hunter Biden Cases and Pardon
The FBI inquiries at issue involved Hunter Biden, who was convicted on federal gun charges and pleaded guilty to separate tax offenses. Former President Joe Biden issued his son a full and unconditional pardon in December 2024.
No evidence has been presented that Joe Biden received financial benefit from Hunter Biden’s business activities.
